Monty's Story: From Dragging His Owner Down the Pavement to Walking at Heel

He had been handed from owner to owner, none of them ready for the breed. What he had never had was structure.

  • Monty
  • German Shepherd
  • Two weeks of training
  • Trained by Tyler Breh

Where Monty started

Monty's family adopted him unexpectedly. Before them, he had been shifted around to many different owners who were not prepared for the extra demands that come with a German Shepherd.

The result was a dog with behavior problems that came from a long stretch without structure. His owner did not soften it: she called him "our barbarian of a German Shepherd", and said his leash behavior meant being dragged across the pavement.

The training journey

Monty spent two weeks with Tyler Breh, our owner. A dog who has had many homes and no rules has to learn two things at once: what is being asked, and that the person asking means it every time.

His family got videos of his training along the way. They also got Valentine's Day cards from Monty.

What actually changed

  • The leash. In his owner's words, his walking went from dragging her across the pavement to "off-leash walking at an appropriate heel pace!"
  • He listens. She says he actually listens to and follows commands now.
  • He is a different dog. She says "Monty is a different dog than he was 2 weeks ago".

★★★★★

“In just two weeks, Tyler transformed Monty’s quite atrocious leash behavior from dragging me across the pavement to -as the name implies- off-leash walking at an appropriate heel pace! His stubborn demeanor has been completely nixed, as he actually listens to and follows commands now! Monty is a different dog than he was 2 weeks ago, and I’m blown away at the progress he’s made with Tyler!”

What it changed for his family

A German Shepherd who drags his owner is not a dog you take places. Monty's photos tell the rest: sitting calmly in a store aisle, resting on a bench in a shopping plaza. His owner thanked Tyler for being kind to her boy and for working so hard with him.

Why Monty's story matters to us

Dogs like Monty get passed along because nobody gave them structure, and each new home makes it a little harder. We were glad to be the place where that stopped. It is the kind of result Off Leash K9 Training North Georgia wants for every dog who arrives with a history.

Before and after

Monty, a German Shepherd who had been passed between many owners, dragged his new family down the pavement. After two weeks with Tyler Breh he walks off leash at heel and follows commands.

Off-leash walking at heel comes from our board and train programs; the 2 Week Board and Train is the one that covers it. Every program and price is on our plans and pricing page.
