An 8-Month-Old Doberman's Story: Same Big Energy, Now With Manners

Smart, driven and, in his owner's words, very hard-headed. He did not need less energy. He needed somewhere to put it.

Where he started

This Doberman was eight months old, high-energy and strong-willed. His family could see how much potential he had, and they could also see that daily life with him was hard.

Their description is one a lot of owners of young, driven dogs will recognize: "Walks were exhausting, commands were optional in his mind, and his excitement level was through the roof most of the time."

The training journey

He spent two weeks training with Tyler Breh, our owner. A dog like this is not short on brains. What he is short on is structure, so the work was about clear rules, repeated the same way every day, until listening became the habit.

When the two weeks were up, Tyler explained the training process to the family, showed them each piece of it, and made sure they felt confident carrying on at home.

What actually changed

  • He is focused and responsive. His family calls him "significantly more disciplined."
  • Walks are different. They name his leash manners and impulse control among the biggest changes.
  • He listens with distractions around. He now has structure, boundaries and the ability to respond when other things are going on.
  • He is still himself. The same energetic, fun-loving Doberman came home.

★★★★★

“We have an 8-month-old Doberman who is incredibly high-energy and, to put it lightly, very hard-headed. He’s smart and driven, but that combination made daily life challenging. Walks were exhausting, commands were optional in his mind, and his excitement level was through the roof most of the time. […] He’s now focused, responsive, and significantly more disciplined. The difference in his obedience, leash manners, impulse control, and overall behavior is truly night and day.”

What it changed for his family

The family says the training completely changed their day-to-day life for the better. They also point to something that matters to us: they were taught how to keep it going, and they say that has made all the difference.

Why this story matters to us

Owners of strong-willed dogs often worry that training will flatten the dog they love. This family got the opposite. Off Leash K9 Training North Georgia exists for dogs like this one: plenty of drive, and a family ready to learn how to steer it.

Before and after

An 8-month-old Doberman was high-energy, hard-headed and exhausting to walk. After two weeks with Tyler Breh he is focused, responsive and far more disciplined, and still the same fun-loving dog.
